Description
Day 1 – theoretical lectures with strong interaction with participants
Fundamental basics in statistical testing, interpretations and misinterpretations of alpha, beta, and p-values, statistical power and sample size calculation, introduction to survival analysis and Kaplan-Meier curves.
Day 2 - theoretical lectures with strong interaction with participants
Quantification of associations and biases, introduction to multivariate regression models, study design for causal inference.
Day 3 - practicals on published papers
Critical appraisal of statistical methods and results presented in papers, interpreting results from a survival analysis, statistical power of a study and sample size calculation.
Day 4 – practicals on published papers
Anticipating and discussing the presence of biases for causal inference, interpretation of results from univariate and multivariate regression models, critical appraisal of clinical messages delivered in published papers
Objectifs de la formation
methods used to obtain the results of published studies and the clinical message(s) based on these results. The
MasterClass will focus on comparative studies only (case-control studies, cohort studies, clinical trials) in order to
make causal inference (suggesting a causal association from a significant result in the study). To reach this
objective, participants will be able to understand the statistical analyses performed by scientists and to interpret
the statistical results. There will be no data manipulation with a statistical software, since performing data
analyses is not the objective of this MasterClass.
Public visé
Veterinary residents or interns, PhD students, academic staff, and veterinary surgeons from private companies or
clinics involved in clinical veterinary research. Non veterinarians can attend the MasterClass if the maximum
number of participants has not been reached.
