Day 1

8h45 - 12h00 : theory

• Preparation, sedation and analgesia/anesthesia of the patient in laparoscopy (20') T.van Bergen
• Equipment and Instrumentation (25') T. van Bergen
• Specific laparoscopic instrumentation (25') M. Fancon (Covidien)
• Laparoscopic access and strategies. Prevention of complications (20') A.Martens
• Laparoscopic suturing and knot techniques (20') F.Rossignol
• Exploratory laparoscopy - standing horse and horse in dorsal decubitus (30') T. van Bergen

13h30 - 14h30 : theory, including demonstration with videos and discussion

• Lapararoscopic cryptorchidectomy (15') A.Martens
• Laparoscopic ovariectomy (20') A. Martens
• Laparoscopic hernioplasty (20') F.Rossignol

15h30 - 18h30 : ex-vivo Lab, practical simulation exercises with anatomical specimens

• Orientation and manipulation of instruments and needle.
• Extracorporeal sliding knot techniques.
• Manipulation of the Ligasure, continuous suturing and sliding end-knot, use of barbed sutures.

Day 2 

8h30 - 11h30 : Lab 1 laparoscopic castration:

• 3 horses would be used in 3 lab places - 4 participants per lab place.
• In each room, 2 participants would work alternatively.
• Ex vivo lab will be available for additional training.

11h30 - 12h30 : Debriefing following the labs

14h00 - 16h30 : Labs 2 laparoscopic ovarietomy : 

• 3 horseswould be used in 3 lab places -4 participants per lab place. 
• In each room, 2 participants would work alternatively on Lab 2.
• Exvivolabwillbe available for additionnal training.

17h00 - 18h00 : Debriefing following the labs : 

• Discussion around clinical cases

• Benefit from the tips of experienced surgeons ;

• State of the art lectures given in this unique atmosphere will focus on general principles in coelioscopy, surgical techniques and tips, as well as common surgical procedures in equine practice ;

• Our goal is to go from «how to» to «can do» ;

• Our long standing partners ARTHREX and COVIDIEN will provide you with state of the art equipment.
